Bacharach

Stahleck Castle is on the hill above Bacharach.

The Pfalz at Kaub

A pfalz is a toll station. This pfalz was built at the begining of the 14th century by Lewis the Babvrian on an island in the Rhine, so he could exact a toll from each boat that passed.

On the hillside is Burg Gutenfels, which dates back to the first half of the 13th century and is in a splendid state of preservation.

Guest House

I am enjoying a beer on the front porch after a hard day's cycling into a stiff wind. This cycle path along the Mosel is very well used, mostly by people doing day trips while holidaying along the river.
